North Olympic Youth Symphonies

The North Olympic Youth Symphonies is a family of four orchestras designed for the young musician who wants something extra. The Honor Orchestra is a string orchestra designed for the motivated student who has played at least one year. The Junior Youth Orchestra is for more advanced string players. Membership is by approval of the director. The Youth Orchestra is the most advanced group and is a full orchestra (strings and winds). This orchestra is by audition only. This year we will begin a string only orchestra at the top level too.

Rehearsals for all four groups are on Mondays at Stevens Middle School. The Honor Orchestra rehearses from 4pm to 5pm. Junior Youth rehearses from 5pm to 6:30pm. Youth Orchestra rehearses from 4pm to 5pm. The String Symphony rehearses from 5pm to 6:15pm.

There are three regular concerts during the season. In addition the Youth Orchestra has one performance with the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra.

Dues for membership is $100 for the year (due November 1). This covers all expenses for the year. All music, folders and necessities will be provided by NOYS as well as a "memory packet" (photo) and year end awards.

The NOYS has a scholarship fund to help members with private lessons. In fact over half our budget last year went directly to our members in this form. All scholarship funds come from outside sources. Because of the rising costs (mostly of music) we will not be offering summer camp scholarships this year. The money will, in stead, go into the general budget in order to keep the dues the same as last year.

Please get your applications in a soon as possible. It is important in the planing of music for the first concert to know what the instrumentation for the groups will be. This is especially true for the Youth Orchestra.
